Ep. 215: ”You’re Grieving Wrong” and Other Unhealthy Statements
Sunday Apr 23, 2023
Sunday Apr 23, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 215, “‘You’re Grieving Wrong’ and Other Unhealthy Statements,” Kim discusses the importance of providing healthy support to those who have suffered loss.
Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Samuel 18:33-19:8a with the focal verses of 18:33-19:7.
33 The king was overcome with emotion. He went up to the room over the gateway and burst into tears. And as he went, he cried, “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you! O Absalom, my son, my son.”
19 Word soon reached Joab that the king was weeping and mourning for Absalom. 2 As all the people heard of the king’s deep grief for his son, the joy of that day’s victory was turned into deep sadness. 3 They crept back into the town that day as though they were ashamed and had deserted in battle. 4 The king covered his face with his hands and kept on crying, “O my son Absalom! O Absalom, my son, my son!”
5 Then Joab went to the king’s room and said to him, “We saved your life today and the lives of your sons, your daughters, and your wives and concubines. Yet you act like this, making us feel ashamed of ourselves. 6 You seem to love those who hate you and hate those who love you. You have made it clear today that your commanders and troops mean nothing to you. It seems that if Absalom had lived and all of us had died, you would be pleased. 7 Now go out there and congratulate your troops, for I swear by the Lord that if you don’t go out, not a single one of them will remain here tonight. Then you will be worse off than ever before.”
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE:
Ask the Lord to show you at least one way you can better support someone who is experiencing loss.

Ep. 214: Do You Suffer from Tunnel Vision?
Sunday Apr 16, 2023
Sunday Apr 16, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 214, “Do You Suffer from Tunnel Vision?” Kim discusses the dangers of refusing to consider other perspectives beyond your own.
Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Samuel 18:19-33 with the focal verses of 19-20, 22-23.
19 Then Zadok’s son Ahimaaz said, “Let me run to the king with the good news that the Lord has rescued him from his enemies.”
20 “No,” Joab told him, “it wouldn’t be good news to the king that his son is dead. You can be my messenger another time, but not today.”
22 But Ahimaaz continued to plead with Joab, “Whatever happens, please let me go, too.”
“Why should you go, my son?” Joab replied. “There will be no reward for your news.”
23 “Yes, but let me go anyway,” he begged.
Joab finally said, “All right, go ahead.” So Ahimaaz took the less demanding route by way of the plain and ran to Mahanaim ahead of the Ethiopian.

Ep. 213: Assessing Victims of the Family Feud
Sunday Apr 09, 2023
Sunday Apr 09, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 213, “Assessing Victims of the Family Feud,” Kim discusses the multitude of casualties as a result of the family feud between King David and his wayward son Absalom. Absalom was one of those casualties, as well as a piece of David’s heart. Sadly, many people are victims of family feuds. May we make wiser decisions in our own family interactions, praying and working hard to avoid the carnage of David’s family?
Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Samuel 18:1-18 with the focal verses of 6-8 and 14.
6 So the battle began in the forest of Ephraim, 7 and the Israelite troops were beaten back by David’s men. There was a great slaughter that day, and 20,000 men laid down their lives. 8 The battle raged all across the countryside, and more men died because of the forest than were killed by the sword.
14 “Enough of this nonsense,” Joab said. Then he took three daggers and plunged them into Absalom’s heart as he dangled, still alive, in the great tree. 15 Ten of Joab’s young armor bearers then surrounded Absalom and killed him.
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE:
Are you or someone you love currently involved in a "family" feud? Pray for a Godly resolution.

Ep. 212: Recognizing and Responding to Hopelessness
Sunday Apr 02, 2023
Sunday Apr 02, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 212, “Recognizing and Responding to Hopelessness,” Kim discusses the suicides of Ahithophel and Judas. Both men felt as though they had nothing left to live for. Sadly, many in our day and time feel the same. Kim will discuss some risk factors, as well as some of the warning signs of suicide, and provide encouragement in confronting the problem.
Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Samuel 17 with the focal verses of 1-4, 14, and 23.
1 Now Ahithophel urged Absalom, “Let me choose 12,000 men to start out after David tonight. 2 I will catch up with him while he is weary and discouraged. He and his troops will panic, and everyone will run away. Then I will kill only the king, 3 and I will bring all the people back to you as a bride returns to her husband. After all, it is only one man’s life that you seek. Then you will be at peace with all the people.” 4 This plan seemed good to Absalom and to all the elders of Israel.
14 Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “Hushai’s advice is better than Ahithophel’s.” For the Lord had determined to defeat the counsel of Ahithophel, which really was the better plan, so that he could bring disaster on Absalom!
23 When Ahithophel realized that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey, went to his hometown, set his affairs in order, and hanged himself. He died there and was buried in the family tomb.
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE:
Educate yourself on the risk factors and warning signs of suicide, as well as the steps for helping.
Additional Resources and Scriptures:
Ep. 203: Do You Have a Judas in Your Circle?
Matthew 27:1-10 - 3 When Judas, who had betrayed him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die, he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver back to the leading priests and the elders. 4 “I have sinned,” he declared, “for I have betrayed an innocent man.” “What do we care?” they retorted. “That’s your problem.” 5 Then Judas threw the silver coins down in the Temple and went out and hanged himself. Ep. 209: Test to See If the Spirit Comes from God
Sunday Mar 12, 2023
Sunday Mar 12, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 209, “Test to See If the Spirit Comes from God,” Kim discusses the importance of relying on Godly discernment and knowledge of God’s Word to determine whether a voice is from the Lord.
Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Samuel 16:15-23 with 23 as the focal verse.
23 Absalom followed Ahithophel’s advice, just as David had done. For every word Ahithophel spoke seemed as wise as though it had come directly from the mouth of God.
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE:
Pray for God’s discernment regarding the difference between His voice and others.

Additional Resources and Scriptures:
15 “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions. (Matthew 7:15-20)
1 Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. 2 This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. 3 But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here. (1 John 4:1-3)

May God honor this personalized scripture prayer in the life of each listener:
Dear Lord,
I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources You will empower each listener with inner strength through Your Spirit. May You make Your home in her(/his) heart as she trusts in You. May her roots grow down into Your love and keep her strong. And may she have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is. May she experience Your love, though it is too great to understand fully. Then may she be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from You. Now all glory to You, who is able, through Your mighty power at work within her, to accomplish infinitely more than she might ask or think. (Ephesians 3:16-20 Personalized Prayer)
