Ep. 89: Residing in the Presence of the Lord
Sunday Nov 22, 2020
Sunday Nov 22, 2020
In Podcast Episode 89, “Residing in the Presence of the Lord,” Kim discusses the choice we can each make to reside in the presence of the Lord, no matter the surrounding circumstances. Samuel grew up in a less than godly environment, being a first-hand witness to the sinful behavior of Eli’s sons. Yet, in the midst of all of that, we see that, by God’s grace, “Samuel grew up in the presence of the Lord.” No matter what the circumstances you may be experiencing, choose to reside in the presence of the Lord.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 2:12-21 with focal verse 21.
“Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels who had no respect for the Lord or for their duties as priests. Whenever anyone offered a sacrifice, Eli’s sons would send over a servant with a three-pronged fork. While the meat of the sacrificed animal was still boiling, the servant would stick the fork into the pot and demand that whatever it brought up be given to Eli’s sons. All the Israelites who came to worship at Shiloh were treated this way. Sometimes the servant would come even before the animal’s fat had been burned on the altar. He would demand raw meat before it had been boiled so that it could be used for roasting. The man offering the sacrifice might reply, “Take as much as you want, but the fat must be burned first.” Then the servant would demand, “No, give it to me now, or I’ll take it by force.” So the sin of these young men was very serious in the Lord’s sight, for they treated the Lord’s offerings with contempt. But Samuel, though he was only a boy, served the Lord. He wore a linen garment like that of a priest. Each year his mother made a small coat for him and brought it to him when she came with her husband for the sacrifice. Before they returned home, Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, “May the Lord give you other children to take the place of this one she gave to the Lord. ” And the Lord blessed Hannah, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, Samuel grew up in the presence of the Lord.”

Ep. 88: Your Personal Prayer of Praise
Sunday Nov 15, 2020
Sunday Nov 15, 2020
In Podcast Episode 88, “Your Personal Prayer of Praise,” Kim discusses Hannah’s prayer of praise, even in the midst of a heart torn. Psalm 145:2 states: “Every day I will bless You and praise Your name forever and ever.” We all need to be more diligent in consciously setting aside moments of praise. Praise is not tied to favorable circumstances but is tied to the character of God. Just think about how your perspective and attitude would improve if you set aside even 5 minutes each day to praise God for who He is.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 2:1-11 with focal verses
1 Then Hannah prayed:
“My heart rejoices in the Lord! The Lord has made me strong. Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because you rescued me.
2 No one is holy like the Lord! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.
3 “Stop acting so proud and haughty! Don’t speak with such arrogance! For the Lord is a God who knows what you have done; he will judge your actions.
4 The bow of the mighty is now broken, and those who stumbled are now strong.
5 Those who were well fed are now starving, and those who were starving are now full. The childless woman now has seven children, and the woman with many children wastes away.
6 The Lord gives both death and life; he brings some down to the grave but raises others up.
7 The Lord makes some poor and others rich; he brings some down and lifts others up.
8 He lifts the poor from the dust and the needy from the garbage dump.He sets them among princes, placing them in seats of honor. For all the earth is the Lord’s, and he has set the world in order.
9 “He will protect his faithful ones, but the wicked will disappear in darkness. No one will succeed by strength alone.
10 Those who fight against the Lord will be shattered. He thunders against them from heaven; the Lord judges throughout the earth. He gives power to his king; he increases the strength of his anointed one.”
11 Then Elkanah returned home to Ramah without Samuel. And the boy served the Lord by assisting Eli the priest.
SUPPLEMENTAL TEXT:
1 I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever.
2 I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever.
3 Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.
4 Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.
5 I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.
6 Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim your greatness.
7 Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness.
8 The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
9 The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation.
10 All of your works will thank you, Lord, and your faithful followers will praise you.
11 They will speak of the glory of your kingdom; they will give examples of your power.
12 They will tell about your mighty deeds and about the majesty and glory of your reign.
13 For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations.
The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.
14 The Lord helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads.
15 The eyes of all look to you in hope; you give them their food as they need it.
16 When you open your hand, you satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing.
17 The Lord is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness.
18 The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth.
19 He grants the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cries for help and rescues them.
20 The Lord protects all those who love him, but he destroys the wicked.
21 I will praise the Lord, and may everyone on earth bless his holy name forever and ever. (Psalm 145:1-21)

Ep. 87: God Answers in His Due Time
Sunday Nov 08, 2020
Sunday Nov 08, 2020
In Podcast Episode 87, “God Answers in His Due Time,” Kim discusses the challenges we face when our desired time and God’s due time differ. To some of our prayer requests, God says a prompt, “No, my child, this is not for you.” Hannah kept coming to God in prayer and she believed the Lord had heard her prayer, but the answer came in God’s due time.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 1:19-28 with focal verses 20:
19 The entire family got up early the next morning and went to worship the Lord once more. Then they returned home to Ramah. When Elkanah slept with Hannah, the Lord remembered her plea, 20 and in due time she gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, or she said, “I asked the Lord for him.”
21 The next year Elkanah and his family went on their annual trip to offer a sacrifice to the Lord and to keep his vow. 22 But Hannah did not go. She told her husband, “Wait until the boy is weaned. Then I will take him to the Tabernacle and leave him there with the Lord permanently.”
23 “Whatever you think is best,” Elkanah agreed. “Stay here for now, and may the Lord help you keep your promise.” So she stayed home and nursed the boy until he was weaned. 24 When the child was weaned, Hannah took him to the Tabernacle in Shiloh. They brought along a three-year-old bull for the sacrifice and a basket of flour and some wine. 25 After sacrificing the bull, they brought the boy to Eli. 26 “Sir, do you remember me?” Hannah asked. “I am the very woman who stood here several years ago praying to the Lord. 27 I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. 28 Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there.
SUPPLEMENTAL TEXTS:
O Lord, I cry out to you.
I will keep on pleading day by day. (Psalm 88:13)
1 One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. 2 “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people. 3 A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ 4 The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, 5 but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”
6 Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. 7 Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?” (Luke 18:1-8)

Ep. 86: Praying from Great Anguish and Sorrow
Sunday Nov 01, 2020
Sunday Nov 01, 2020
In Podcast Episode 86, “Praying from Great Anguish and Sorrow,” Kim discusses Hannah’s prayer from the pit of pain and the prayers we pour out from a place of great anguish and sorrow. In Hannah’s case, she was praying desperately for a child.
In your case, you may be praying for God to:
Save someone you love, either physically, mentally, emotionally, and/or spiritually;
Restore your marriage;
Heal your broken heart;
Provide financially;
Provide physical healing (i.e., cancer);
Other______________.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 1:9-18 with focal verses 10, 15:
9 Once after a sacrificial meal at Shiloh, Hannah got up and went to pray. Eli the priest was sitting at his customary place beside the entrance of the Tabernacle. 10 Hannah was in deep anguish, crying bitterly as she prayed to the Lord. 11 And she made this vow: “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, if you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours for his entire lifetime, and as a sign that he has been dedicated to the Lord, his hair will never be cut.”
12 As she was praying to the Lord, Eli watched her. 13 Seeing her lips moving but hearing no sound, he thought she had been drinking. 14 “Must you come here drunk?” he demanded. “Throw away your wine!”
15 “Oh no, sir!” she replied. “I haven’t been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the Lord. 16 Don’t think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.”
17 “In that case,” Eli said, “go in peace! May the God of Israel grant the request you have asked of him.”
18 “Oh, thank you, sir!” she exclaimed. Then she went back and began to eat again, and she was no longer sad.

Ep. 85: The Lord Had Given Her No Children
Sunday Oct 25, 2020
Sunday Oct 25, 2020
In Podcast Episode 85, “The Lord Had Given Her No Children,” Kim discusses Hannah’s infertility and the hand of the Lord regarding pregnancy. Why does the Lord enable some women to have children and others not? Why do some families have healthy children and others have ones who are differently enabled?
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 1:1-8 with focal verses 5, 8:
5 “And though he loved Hannah, he would give her only one choice portion because the Lord had given her no children.” 6 So Peninnah would taunt Hannah and make fun of her because the Lord had kept her from having children. 7 Year after year it was the same—Peninnah would taunt Hannah as they went to the Tabernacle. Each time, Hannah would be reduced to tears and would not even eat. 8 “Why are you crying, Hannah?” Elkanah would ask. “Why aren’t you eating? Why be downhearted just because you have no children? You have me—isn’t that better than having ten sons?”” (1 Samuel 1:5-8)
13 So Boaz took Ruth into his home, and she became his wife. When he slept with her, the Lord enabled her to become pregnant, and she gave birth to a son. (Ruth 4:13)
21 Isaac pleaded with the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was unable to have children. The Lord answered Isaac’s prayer, and Rebekah became pregnant with twins. (Genesis 25:21)
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed. (Psalm 139:13-16)
25 “You must serve only the Lord your God. If you do, I will bless you with food and water, and I will protect you from illness. 26 There will be no miscarriages or infertility in your land, and I will give you long, full lives. (Exodus 23:25-26)
14 You will be blessed above all the nations of the earth. None of your men or women will be childless, and all your livestock will bear young. (Deut. 7:14)
9 He gives the childless woman a family, making her a happy mother.
Praise the Lord! (Ps. 113:9)
11 Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? (Exodus 4:11)

Ep. 84: Ruth, Rahab & Redemption
Sunday Oct 18, 2020
Sunday Oct 18, 2020
In Podcast Episode 84, “Ruth, Rahab & Redemption,” Kim discusses the story of redemption woven through the book of Ruth and the life stories of Ruth, Rahab and their descendant Jesus Christ. Not only did God redeem Ruth and her mother-in-law Rahab, but He chose to use them as part of the greatest redemption story of all time.
The primary scripture text for this episode is Ruth 4:13-22, with focal verse 13 and Matthew 1:5:
13 So Boaz took Ruth into his home, and she became his wife. When he slept with her, the Lord enabled her to become pregnant, and she gave birth to a son. 14 Then the women of the town said to Naomi, “Praise the Lord, who has now provided a redeemer for your family! May this child be famous in Israel. 15 May he restore your youth and care for you in your old age. For he is the son of your daughter-in-law who loves you and has been better to you than seven sons!”
16 Naomi took the baby and cuddled him to her breast. And she cared for him as if he were her own. 17 The neighbor women said, “Now at last Naomi has a son again!” And they named him Obed. He became the father of Jesse and the grandfather of David.
18 This is the genealogical record of their ancestor Perez:
Perez was the father of Hezron.
19 Hezron was the father of Ram.Ram was the father of Amminadab.
20 Amminadab was the father of Nahshon.Nahshon was the father of Salmon.
21 Salmon was the father of Boaz.Boaz was the father of Obed.
22 Obed was the father of Jesse.Jesse was the father of David.
5 Salmon was the father of Boaz (whose mother was Rahab). Boaz was the father of Obed (whose mother was Ruth). Obed was the father of Jesse. (Matthew 1:5)

Ep. 83: Prayer of Blessing: Unleashing Unlimited Power
Sunday Oct 11, 2020
Sunday Oct 11, 2020
In Podcast Episode 83, “Prayer of Blessing: Unleashing Unlimited Power,” Kim discusses the unlimited power of God which is released when humble, willing hearts pray for others. Boaz, a godly man of integrity, has chosen to fulfill his role as a kinsman-redeemer for Ruth and Naomi. This paints a picture of our own kinsman-redeemer, Jesus Christ. When Boaz publicly proclaims his commitment to redeem Ruth, the witnesses pray a prayer of blessing over them both. However, little did they know how God would answer their prayers for this couple and their offspring far beyond anything they could have imagined. For whom do you need to pray and unleash the unlimited power of God?
The primary scripture text for this episode is Ruth 4:1-12, with focal verses of 11-12:
11 Then the elders and all the people standing in the gate replied, “We are witnesses! May the Lord make this woman who is coming into your home like Rachel and Leah, from whom all the nation of Israel descended! May you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem. 12 And may the Lord give you descendants by this young woman who will be like those of our ancestor Perez, the son of Tamar and Judah.”

This podcast is hosted by Kim Smith, a small town Country Girl who left her comfort zone to follow Jesus in a big City World. Now, she wants to use God’s Word and lessons from her faith journey to encourage others in loving Jesus.
In each episode, Kim will share insights regarding a portion of God’s Word and challenge listeners to apply the lessons to their daily lives.
If you want to grow in your faith and learn how to encourage others in loving Jesus, subscribe and commit to prayerfully listening each week.
May God honor this personalized scripture prayer in the life of each listener:
Dear Lord,
I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources You will empower each listener with inner strength through Your Spirit. May You make Your home in her(/his) heart as she trusts in You. May her roots grow down into Your love and keep her strong. And may she have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is. May she experience Your love, though it is too great to understand fully. Then may she be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from You. Now all glory to You, who is able, through Your mighty power at work within her, to accomplish infinitely more than she might ask or think. (Ephesians 3:16-20 Personalized Prayer)
