Ep. 119: More Than Conquerors: Force Your Giant into the Light
Sunday Jun 20, 2021
Sunday Jun 20, 2021
In Podcast Episode 119, “More Than Conquerors: Force Your Giant into the Light,” Kim discusses the modern-day giants you face in your life. Your giants could be anything or anyone that keeps you from being all God created us to be.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 17:1-58 with the key verse 4-7, 33:
4 Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall! 5 He wore a bronze helmet, and his bronze coat of mail weighed 125 pounds. 6 He also wore bronze leg armor, and he carried a bronze javelin on his shoulder. 7 The shaft of his spear was as heavy and thick as a weaver’s beam, tipped with an iron spearhead that weighed 15 pounds. His armor bearer walked ahead of him carrying a shield.
33 “Don’t be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There’s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been a man of war since his youth.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37 NIV)
Weekly Assignment Feature:

Ep.118: More Than Conquerors: The Lord of Heaven's Armies
Sunday Jun 13, 2021
Sunday Jun 13, 2021
In Podcast Episode 118, “More Than Conquerors: The Lord of Heaven’s Armies,” Kim discusses multiple foci in the story of David and Goliath. David was the one person to focus appropriately on the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, and his focus made the biggest difference between utter defeat (or a no-show) and being a conduit for the Lord’s victory.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 17:1-58 with the key verse 45-47:
45 David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! 47 And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord’s battle, and he will give you to us!” (! Samuel 17:45-47)
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37 NIV)
Weekly Assignment Feature:
Spend at least 5 minutes each day meditating on and praising the Lord of Heaven's Armies.
"Where Was the Focus?"
Saul and the Israelite army--Focused on "the Giant," both his huge body and his reputation as the "champion."
Eliab (David's oldest brother)--Focused on his perception of his baby brother's abilities.
Goliath--Focused on himself and what he believed he could do.
David--Focused on "the Lord of Heaven's Armies."

14 So one night the king of Aram sent a great army with many chariots and horses to surround the city.
15 When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha.
16 “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” 17 Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. Ep. 117: More Than Conquerors: Introduction
Sunday Jun 06, 2021
Sunday Jun 06, 2021
In Podcast Episode 117, “More Than Conquerors: Introduction,” Kim kicks her newest multi-episode series inspired by the attitude and actions of young David in his encounter with the giant Goliath. For the next few weeks, Kim will discuss the importance of focusing more on the Lord of Heaven’s Armies than any of the giants we face. In this introductory episode, she will introduce the two theme verses for this study: 1 Samuel 17:45 and Romans 8:37 from the NIV.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 17:1-58 with the key verse 45:
45 David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37 NIV)

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Ep. 116: Leading with the Heart of a Servant
Sunday May 30, 2021
Sunday May 30, 2021
In Podcast Episode 116, “Leading with the Heart of a Servant,” Kim discusses the humble service of young David and the challenge to serve others issued by Jesus. Jesus definitely flipped the script on the earthly view of leadership. As humans, our human tendency is to seek to power over others. Yet, Jesus said to be a true leader you must be a servant.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 16:14-23 with the key verse 21:
“So David went to Saul and began serving him. Saul loved David very much, and David became his armor bearer.”
Weekly Assignment Feature:
Pray for God to show you opportunities for service and then humbly serve others.
Additional Resources:

Ep. 115: Never Settle for Less Than God's Best
Sunday May 23, 2021
Sunday May 23, 2021
In Podcast Episode 115, “Never Settle for Less Than God’s Best,” Kim discusses the temptation we face to settle for less than God’s best. There may be many reasons we settle. In today’s story we see Samuel faced with one of those. What would have happened if he had attempted to settle for a king from David’s brothers? What has happened in your life when you settled for less than God’s best?
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 16:8-13: with the key verses 10-11:
“In the same way all seven of Jesse’s sons were presented to Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen any of these.” Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.” “Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.””
Weekly Assignment Feature:
Identify any areas of life in which you have been settling for less than God’s best.
Additional Resources:
12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. (Philippians 3:12-14)
“I ain't settling for just getting by
I've had enough so-so for the rest of my life
Tired of shooting too low, so raise the bar high
Just enough ain't enough this time
I ain't settling for anything less than everything, yeah.” (Chorus of “Settlin’” by Sugarland, Written by Jennifer Nettles, Kristian Bush, and Tim Owens).

Sunday May 16, 2021
In Podcast Episode 114, “The Lord Looks at the Heart,” Kim discusses the importance of looking past the outward appearance of others and seeing their hearts. Sometimes, we may struggle to do this even with the person we see in the mirror.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 16:1-7 with the key verses 7:
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Weekly Assignment Feature:

Ep. 113: Fearing People, Failing God
Sunday May 09, 2021
Sunday May 09, 2021
In Podcast Episode 113, “Fearing People, Failing God,” Kim discusses the temptation we face to put the fear of what others may think about us above the priority of fully obeying the Lord. Whose opinion truly matters most in your life?
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 15:24-35 with the key verses 24, 30:
24 Then Saul admitted to Samuel, “Yes, I have sinned. I have disobeyed your instructions and the Lord’s command, for I was afraid of the people and did what they demanded.
30 Then Saul pleaded again, “I know I have sinned. But please, at least honor me before the elders of my people and before Israel by coming back with me so that I may worship the Lord your God.”
Weekly Assignment Feature:
Ask the Lord to open your eyes to see whose opinion really matters most to you—His opinion or the opinion of others.

Sunday May 02, 2021
Sunday May 02, 2021
In Podcast Episode 112, “Obedience Is Better Than Sacrifice,” Kim discusses the temptation we all face to less than total obedience to the Lord. Just like King Saul, we also hope our sin will not be brought into the open. Yet, our sin will always be found out.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 15:1-23 with the key verses 22-23:
22 But Samuel replied,
“What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice?Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.
23 Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”
Weekly Assignment Feature:
Prayerfully identify an area of your life where you have been trying to bargain with God instead of fully obeying.

The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 14:24-52 with the key verses 36:
36 Then Saul said, “Let’s chase the Philistines all night and plunder them until sunrise. Let’s destroy every last one of them.”

7 He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
8 He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to him. (Proverbs 2:1-8)

Ep. 110: Act As Though Nothing Can Hinder the Lord

In Podcast Episode 110, “Act As Though Nothing Can Hinder the Lord,” Kim discusses the spiritual eyesight of Jonathan and the victory the Lord provided. Saul and his troops were not looking for the Lord to move, so they were as confused as the Philistines. However, Jonathan had acted through eyes of faith and clearly saw the victory the Lord had provided.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 14:1-23 with the key verse 6:
6 “Let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans,” Jonathan said to his armor bearer. “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!”
Weekly Assignment Feature:
Do you truly believe nothing can hinder the Lord? If so, request His divine direction and act upon the insight by taking at least one step of faith.

May God honor this personalized scripture prayer in the life of each listener:
Dear Lord,
I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources You will empower each listener with inner strength through Your Spirit. May You make Your home in her(/his) heart as she trusts in You. May her roots grow down into Your love and keep her strong. And may she have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is. May she experience Your love, though it is too great to understand fully. Then may she be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from You. Now all glory to You, who is able, through Your mighty power at work within her, to accomplish infinitely more than she might ask or think. (Ephesians 3:16-20 Personalized Prayer)
