Ep. 139: Uncontrolled Rage Burns All in It‘s Path
Sunday Nov 07, 2021
Sunday Nov 07, 2021
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 139, “Uncontrolled Rage Burns All in It’s Path,” Kim discusses the dangers of uncontrolled rage, not only to the person or people in the eye but all those in and around the path. What isn’t discussed often is the toll burning anger takes on the person within whose body it is contained.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 22:6-23 with 18-19:
18 Then the king said to Doeg, “You do it.” So Doeg the Edomite turned on them and killed them that day, eighty-five priests in all, still wearing their priestly garments. 19 Then he went to Nob, the town of the priests, and killed the priests’ families—men and women, children and babies—and all the cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats.
Additional Verses:
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you (Ephesians 4:31-32)
James 3:1-11
5 In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches.
But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. (James 3:5)
21 “You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ 22 But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell. (Matthew 5:21)
Weekly Assignment Feature:
Ask the Lord to search your heart and detect even the slightest amount of bitterness before it takes any further ground.

Ep. 138: Pouring Out Pain in the Caves of Life
Sunday Oct 31, 2021
Sunday Oct 31, 2021
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 138, “Pouring Out Pain in the Caves of Life,” Kim discusses the importance of intentionally connecting with God in the dark places of life. King David had at least two cave experiences while running from his stalker King Saul. In Psalms 142 and 57, he expressed some of the thoughts and feelings he was experiencing to his God.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 22:1, Psalm 142, and Psalm 57:
1 So David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. Soon his brothers and all his other relatives joined him there. (1 Samuel 22:1)
2 I pour out my complaints before him
and tell him all my troubles. (Psalm 142:2)
Additional Verses:
14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. (Hebrews 4:14-16)
3 Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there. 4 Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.” (1 Kings 19:3)
Weekly Assignment Feature:
When was the last time you poured out your heart to the Lord? Consider pouring out some pain and/or praise at some point this week.

Ep. 137: David‘s Desperate Motley Crew
Sunday Oct 24, 2021
Sunday Oct 24, 2021
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 137, “David’s Desperate Motley Crew,” Kim discusses the group of men who were drawn to David during his cave time. David was a man in a desperate situation and he drew a crowd of desperate men—“men who were in trouble or in debt or who were just discontented.” Under David’s leadership, the desperate of that day became defenders of the right.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 22:1-5 with focal verse 2:
1 So David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. Soon his brothers and all his other relatives joined him there. 2 Then others began coming—men who were in trouble or in debt or who were just discontented—until David was the captain of about 400 men.
3 Later David went to Mizpeh in Moab, where he asked the king, “Please allow my father and mother to live here with you until I know what God is going to do for me.” 4 So David’s parents stayed in Moab with the king during the entire time David was living in his stronghold.
5 One day the prophet Gad told David, “Leave the stronghold and return to the land of Judah.” So David went to the forest of Hereth.
Additional Verses:
26 Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. 27 Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28 God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. (1 Corinthians 1:26-28)

Ep. 136: Trust or Trickery?
Sunday Oct 17, 2021
Sunday Oct 17, 2021
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 136, “Trust or Trickery?,” Kim discusses the unusual story of David and the trickery he did in order to escape from the raging King Saul. Is this the same David who wholly trusted in the Lord of Heaven’s Armies to fight on his behalf? It is. The one who had trusted the Lord to conquer Goliath had taken his eyes off the Lord of Heaven’s Armies and placed them on his most recent “giant,” King Saul. On which are you currently focusing - the Lord of Heaven’s Armies or your giant? Are you trusting the Lord to provide a way or attempting to manipulate one for yourself?
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 21:1-15 with focal verses 2, 8, 13:
2 “The king has sent me on a private matter,” David said. “He told me not to tell anyone why I am here. I have told my men where to meet me later. 3 Now, what is there to eat? Give me five loaves of bread or anything else you have.”
8 David asked Ahimelech, “Do you have a spear or sword? The king’s business was so urgent that I didn’t even have time to grab a weapon!”
13 So he pretended to be insane, scratching on doors and drooling down his beard.
Additional Verses:
3 Jesus replied, “Haven’t you read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He went into the house of God and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests can eat. He also gave some to his companions.” 5 And Jesus added, “The Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath.” (Luke 6:3-5)
5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God,
for my hope is in him.
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will not be shaken.
7 My victory and honor come from God alone.
He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.
8 O my people, trust in him at all times.
Pour out your heart to him,
for God is our refuge. (Psalm 62:5-8)

SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 135, “The Seasons of Friendship,” Kim discusses the seasons of friendship and how they impact our lives. Jonathan and David had a deep, abiding friendship, and their tearful goodbye in today’s story will touch your heart.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 20:35-42 with focal verses 41-42:
41 As soon as the boy was gone, David came out from where he had been hiding near the stone pile. Then David bowed three times to Jonathan with his face to the ground. Both of them were in tears as they embraced each other and said good-bye, especially David.
42 At last Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, for we have sworn loyalty to each other in the Lord’s name. The Lord is the witness of a bond between us and our children forever.” Then David left, and Jonathan returned to the town.

Ep. 134: Beware of Hot-Tempered People
Sunday Oct 03, 2021
Sunday Oct 03, 2021
In Podcast Episode 134, “Beware of Hot-Tempered People,” Kim discusses the Godly wisdom each of us needs as we navigate relationships. Prince Jonathan thought he knew his father, King Saul, much better than he really did, and nearly lost his friend and his own life due to his wrong conclusions. May each of us be wiser as we learn from Jonathan’s mistake.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 20:1-34 with focal verses 2, 33:
2 “That’s not true!” Jonathan protested. “You’re not going to die. He always tells me everything he’s going to do, even the little things. I know my father wouldn’t hide something like this from me. It just isn’t so!”
33 Then Saul hurled his spear at Jonathan, intending to kill him. So at last Jonathan realized that his father was really determined to kill David.
Additional Verses:
24 Don’t befriend angry people
or associate with hot-tempered people,
25 or you will learn to be like them
and endanger your soul. (Proverbs 22:24-25)
5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. (James 1:5)

Sunday Sep 26, 2021
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 133, “A Behind the Scenes Look at the Lord’s Hand at Work,” Kim discusses glimpse this week’s scriptures provide a behind the scenes look at the Lord’s hand at work for David. And, if the Lord worked on David’s behalf, how comforting this should be that the Lord will work on your behalf in your challenging circumstances.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 19:8-24 with focal verses 12-13, 20, 23:
12 So she helped him climb out through a window, and he fled and escaped. 13 Then she took an idol and put it in his bed, covered it with blankets, and put a cushion of goat’s hair at its head.
20 he sent troops to capture him. But when they arrived and saw Samuel leading a group of prophets who were prophesying, the Spirit of God came upon Saul’s men, and they also began to prophesy.
23 But on the way to Naioth in Ramah the Spirit of God came even upon Saul, and he, too, began to prophesy all the way to Naioth!

Ep. 132: Joy Fills Hearts That Are Planning Peace!
Sunday Sep 19, 2021
Sunday Sep 19, 2021
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 132, “Joy Fills Hearts That Are Planning Peace!,” Kim discusses the importance of looking for opportunities to be a peacemaker. In today’s lesson, Kim discusses how the prince of Israel acted as a prince of peace between his best friend David and his father King Saul.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 19:1-7 with focal verses 4–5:
4 The next morning Jonathan spoke with his father about David, saying many good things about him. “The king must not sin against his servant David,” Jonathan said. “He’s never done anything to harm you. He has always helped you in any way he could. 5 Have you forgotten about the time he risked his life to kill the Philistine giant and how the Lord brought a great victory to all Israel as a result? You were certainly happy about it then. Why should you murder an innocent man like David? There is no reason for it at all!”
Additional Verses:
God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God. (Matthew 5:9)
Deceit fills hearts that are plotting evil;
joy fills hearts that are planning peace! (Proverbs 12:20)
For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
A troublemaker plants seeds of strife;
gossip separates the best of friends. (Proverbs 16:28)
Interfering in someone else’s argument
is as foolish as yanking a dog’s ears. (Proverbs 26:17)
A hot-tempered person starts fights;
a cool-tempered person stops them. (Proverbs 15:18)
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. (Romans 12:18)

Sunday Sep 12, 2021
In Podcast Episode 131, “Exchanging Healthy Relationships for Human Stepping-Stones,” Kim discusses the health of a relationship with God and how the health of that relationship is often seen in how we treat others.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 18:17-30 with focal verses 20-22:
20 In the meantime, Saul’s daughter Michal had fallen in love with David, and Saul was delighted when he heard about it. 21 “Here’s another chance to see him killed by the Philistines!” Saul said to himself. But to David he said, “Today you have a second chance to become my son-in-law!”
22 Then Saul told his men to say to David, “The king really likes you, and so do we. Why don’t you accept the king’s offer and become his son-in-law?”
Additional Verses:
9 Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. (Romans 12:9-10)

SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 130, “Do All That You Can to Live in Peace with Everyone,” Kim discusses the importance of living a life of obedience to God and in peace with others, as much as it depends on you. David was living a life of honor to God, courage, and strength. This life drew Jonathan to him and stirred up the insecurities in King Saul.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 18:5-16 with focal verses 14-16.
14 David continued to succeed in everything he did, for the Lord was with him. 15 When Saul recognized this, he became even more afraid of him. 16 But all Israel and Judah loved David because he was so successful at leading his troops into battle.
Additional Verses:
17 Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. (Romans 12:17-18)
25 Fearing people is a dangerous trap,
but trusting the Lord means safety. (Proverbs 29:25)

May God honor this personalized scripture prayer in the life of each listener:
Dear Lord,
I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources You will empower each listener with inner strength through Your Spirit. May You make Your home in her(/his) heart as she trusts in You. May her roots grow down into Your love and keep her strong. And may she have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is. May she experience Your love, though it is too great to understand fully. Then may she be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from You. Now all glory to You, who is able, through Your mighty power at work within her, to accomplish infinitely more than she might ask or think. (Ephesians 3:16-20 Personalized Prayer)
