Ep. 158: Remain Faithful Til the God-Ordained Dream is Fully Realized
Sunday Mar 20, 2022
Sunday Mar 20, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 158, “Remain Faithful Til the God-Ordained Dream Is Fully Realized,” Kim discusses the God-ordained dreams we each should be pursuing with faithful obedience. Most dreams are not fulfilled overnight, and you will have to persevere through doubts and hardships. Yet, God fulfills every promise. Keep believing, keep obeying, and keep praying.
The primary scripture texts for this episode are 2 Samuel 2:1-4a, 8-11 with 11 as the focal verse.
1 After this, David asked the Lord, “Should I move back to one of the towns of Judah?”
“Yes,” the Lord replied.
Then David asked, “Which town should I go to?”
“To Hebron,” the Lord answered.
2 David’s two wives were Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel. So David and his wives 3 and his men and their families all moved to Judah, and they settled in the villages near Hebron. 4 Then the men of Judah came to David and anointed him king over the people of Judah.
8 But Abner son of Ner, the commander of Saul’s army, had already gone to Mahanaim with Saul’s son Ishbosheth. 9 There he proclaimed Ishbosheth king over Gilead, Jezreel, Ephraim, Benjamin, the land of the Ashurites, and all the rest of Israel.
10 Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he became king, and he ruled from Mahanaim for two years. Meanwhile, the people of Judah remained loyal to David. 11 David made Hebron his capital, and he ruled as king of Judah for seven and a half years.
ADDITIONAL VERSES:
12 So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes.
And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.”
13 So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah. (1 Samuel 16:12-13)

Ep. 157: While There Is Still Time, Take the Time to Say ”Thank You”
Sunday Mar 13, 2022
Sunday Mar 13, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 157, “While There Is Still Time, Take the Time to Say ‘Thank You’,” Kim discusses the importance of being intentional about saying “thank you” in a timely manner. David stopped and sent a message to the people of Jabesh-Gilead, thanking them for their kindness to King Saul and his sons. Whom do you need to stop and tell “thank you”?
The primary scripture texts for this episode are 2 Samuel 2:4-7 with 5 as the focal verse.
4 Then the men of Judah came to David and anointed him king over the people of Judah.
When David heard that the men of Jabesh-gilead had buried Saul, 5 he sent them this message: “May the Lord bless you for being so loyal to your master Saul and giving him a decent burial. 6 May the Lord be loyal to you in return and reward you with his unfailing love! And I, too, will reward you for what you have done. 7 Now that Saul is dead, I ask you to be my strong and loyal subjects like the people of Judah, who have anointed me as their new king.” (2 Samuel 2:4-7)
ADDITIONAL VERSES:
8 The next day, when the Philistines went out to strip the dead, they found the bodies of Saul and his three sons on Mount Gilboa. 9 So they cut off Saul’s head and stripped off his armor. Then they proclaimed the good news of Saul’s death in their pagan temple and to the people throughout the land of Philistia. 10 They placed his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths, and they fastened his body to the wall of the city of Beth-shan.
11 But when the people of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 all their mighty warriors traveled through the night to Beth-shan and took the bodies of Saul and his sons down from the wall. They brought them to Jabesh, where they burned the bodies. 13 Then they took their bones and buried them beneath the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and they fasted for seven days. (1 Samuel 31:8-13)
11 As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria. 12 As he entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance, 13 crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14 He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.
15 One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” 16 He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan.
17 Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you.” (Luke 17:11-19)
Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. (Philippians 1:3)

Ep. 156: Are You Willing to Ask for Directions?
Sunday Mar 06, 2022
Sunday Mar 06, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 156, “Are You Willing to Ask for Directions?” Kim discusses the scriptural admonition to ask the Lord for direction and to be attentive to the Holy Spirit’s voice. In our focal verse for this week, we see David seeking direction from the Lord. Yet, David, just as we do, did not always see the Lord’s direction and make wise choices.
The primary scripture texts for this episode are 2 Samuel 2:1-4a with 1 as the focal verse.
1 “After this, David asked the Lord, “Should I move back to one of the towns of Judah?” “Yes,” the Lord replied. Then David asked, “Which town should I go to?” “To Hebron,” the Lord answered.”
ADDITIONAL VERSES:
6 Next Paul and Silas traveled through the area of Phrygia and Galatia, because the Holy Spirit had prevented them from preaching the word in the province of Asia at that time. 7 Then coming to the borders of Mysia, they headed north for the province of Bithynia, but again the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go there. 8 So instead, they went on through Mysia to the seaport of Troas.
9 That night Paul had a vision: A man from Macedonia in northern Greece was standing there, pleading with him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!” 10 So we decided to leave for Macedonia at once, having concluded that God was calling us to preach the Good News there. (Acts of the Apostles 16:6-10)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek His will in all you do,
and He will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
8 The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you. (Psalm 32:8)
8 Let me hear of Your unfailing love each morning,
for I am trusting You.
Show me where to walk,
for I give myself to You. (Psalm 143:8)

Ep. 155: Biblical Lament: Singing in the Blues Heavenward
Sunday Feb 27, 2022
Sunday Feb 27, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 155, “Biblical Lament: Singing the Blues Heavenward,” Kim discusses the song of lament written by David regarding the deaths of King Saul and his soul friend Jonathan. The book of Psalms contains many individual and communal laments, ones that can lend words to our own bluesy feelings. The laments are also helpful for putting words to our previously unspoken prayers.
The primary scripture texts for this episode are 2 Samuel 1:17-27 with 17-18 as the focal verses.
17 Then David composed a funeral song for Saul and Jonathan, 18 and he commanded that it be taught to the people of Judah. It is known as the Song of the Bow, and it is recorded in The Book of Jashar.
ADDITIONAL VERSES:
1 After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David. 2 From that day on Saul kept David with him and wouldn’t let him return home. 3 And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself. 4 Jonathan sealed the pact by taking off his robe and giving it to David, together with his tunic, sword, bow, and belt. (1 Samuel 18:1-4)
8 O my people, trust in him at all times.
Pour out your heart to him,
for God is our refuge. (Psalm 62:8)
23 Wake up, O Lord! Why do you sleep?
Get up! Do not reject us forever.
24 Why do you look the other way?
Why do you ignore our suffering and oppression?
25 We collapse in the dust,
lying face down in the dirt.
26 Rise up! Help us!
Ransom us because of your unfailing love. (Ps. 44:23-26)
1 I cry out to the Lord;
I plead for the Lord’s mercy.
2 I pour out my complaints before him
and tell him all my troubles.
3 When I am overwhelmed,
you alone know the way I should turn.
Wherever I go,
my enemies have set traps for me.
4 I look for someone to come and help me,
but no one gives me a passing thought!
No one will help me;
no one cares a bit what happens to me.
5 Then I pray to you, O Lord.
I say, “You are my place of refuge.
You are all I really want in life.
6 Hear my cry,
for I am very low.
Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.
7 Bring me out of prison
so I can thank you.
The godly will crowd around me,
for you are good to me.” (Ps. 142:1-7)

Ep. 154: How Good Are You at Reading the Room?
Sunday Feb 20, 2022
Sunday Feb 20, 2022
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 154, “How Good Are You At Reading the Room?” Kim discusses the importance of knowing your audience and using that knowledge to tailor your message for the greatest impact. The Amalekite in 2 Samuel 1 did not know his audience, and, as a result, met the worst possible consequence. In contrast, the Apostle Paul was a master at reading the room and scripting his message for that particular audience.
The primary scripture texts for this episode are 2 Samuel 1:1-15 with 8-10, 16 as the focal verses.
8 “He responded, ‘Who are you?’
“‘I am an Amalekite,’ I told him.
9 “Then he begged me, ‘Come over here and put me out of my misery, for I am in terrible pain and want to die.’
10 “So I killed him,” the Amalekite told David, “for I knew he couldn’t live. Then I took his crown and his armband, and I have brought them here to you, my lord.”
11 David and his men tore their clothes in sorrow when they heard the news. 12 They mourned and wept and fasted all day for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the Lord’s army and the nation of Israel, because they had died by the sword that day.
13 Then David said to the young man who had brought the news, “Where are you from?”
And he replied, “I am a foreigner, an Amalekite, who lives in your land.”
14 “Why were you not afraid to kill the Lord’s anointed one?” David asked.
15 Then David said to one of his men, “Kill him!” So the man thrust his sword into the Amalekite and killed him. 16 “You have condemned yourself,” David said, “for you yourself confessed that you killed the Lord’s anointed one.”
ADDITIONAL VERSES:
Acts 17:16-34
19 Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ. 20 When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law. 21 When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.
22 When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings. (1 Corinthians 9:19-23)

Ep. 153: In the Hall of Faith or in a Hall of Shame
Sunday Feb 13, 2022
Sunday Feb 13, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 153, “In the Hall of Faith or in a Hall of Shame,” Kim discusses the ending of the life of Israelite King Saul and some lessons which can be learned from his story in a Hall of Shame. May each of us commit to being faithful to the Lord, obey the Lord’s commands, and ask the Lord for guidance.
The primary scripture texts for this episode are 1 Samuel 31 and 1 Chronicles 10 with 1 Chronicles 10:13-14 as the focal verses.
13 So Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord. He failed to obey the Lord’s command, and he even consulted a medium 14 instead of asking the Lord for guidance. So the Lord killed him and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.
ADDITIONAL VERSES:
1 Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. 2 Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation….39 All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. 40 For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without us. (Hebrews 11:1-2, 39-40)

Ep. 152: Exercising Wisdom in Leadership Challenges
Sunday Feb 06, 2022
Sunday Feb 06, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 152, “Exercising Wisdom in Leadership Challenges,” Kim discusses some of the challenges David faced in 1 Samuel 29 and 30, and how he handled each one in a Godly manner. Some of the challenges came from the circumstances, some from the men he led, and other challenges were internal. May God show you your areas of leadership and provide the wisdom and discernment you need to lead in Christlikeness and toward Christlikeness.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 30:9-31 with 9-10, 21-24 as the focal verses.
9 So David and his 600 men set out, and they came to the brook Besor. 10 But 200 of the men were too exhausted to cross the brook, so David continued the pursuit with 400 men.
21 Then David returned to the brook Besor and met up with the 200 men who had been left behind because they were too exhausted to go with him. They went out to meet David and his men, and David greeted them joyfully. 22 But some evil troublemakers among David’s men said, “They didn’t go with us, so they can’t have any of the plunder we recovered. Give them their wives and children, and tell them to be gone.”
23 But David said, “No, my brothers! Don’t be selfish with what the Lord has given us. He has kept us safe and helped us defeat the band of raiders that attacked us. 24 Who will listen when you talk like this? We share and share alike—those who go to battle and those who guard the equipment.”
ADDITIONAL VERSES:
6 Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you.
Love her, and she will guard you.
7 Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!
And whatever else you do, develop good judgment. (Proverbs 4:6-7)

Dear Lord,
I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources You will empower each listener with inner strength through Your Spirit. May You make Your home in her(/his) heart as she trusts in You. May her roots grow down into Your love and keep her strong. And may she have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is. May she experience Your love, though it is too great to understand fully. Then may she be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from You. Now all glory to You, who is able, through Your mighty power at work within her, to accomplish infinitely more than she might ask or think. (Ephesians 3:16-20 Personalized Prayer)

Ep. 151: When a Grieving Heart Finds Strength in the Lord
Sunday Jan 30, 2022
Sunday Jan 30, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 151, “When a Grieving Heart Finds Strength in the Lord,” Kim discusses a challenging time in her own life where she, like David, found strength in the Lord. Grief comes in different forms and at different depths, yet the Lord’s strength is available, no matter the type of loss or the depth of the pain.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 30:1-8 with 6-8 as the focal verses.
6 David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
7 Then he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring me the ephod!” So Abiathar brought it. 8 Then David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?”
And the Lord told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!”
1 O Lord, don’t rebuke me in your anger
or discipline me in your rage.
2 Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.
3 I am sick at heart. How long, O Lord, until you restore me?
4 Return, O Lord, and rescue me. Save me because of your unfailing love.
5 For the dead do not remember you. Who can praise you from the grave?
6 I am worn out from sobbing. All night I flood my bed with weeping, drenching it with my tears.
7 My vision is blurred by grief; my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies.
8 Go away, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping.
9 The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord will answer my prayer.
10 May all my enemies be disgraced and terrified.
May they suddenly turn back in shame. (Psalm 6:1-10)
ADDITIONAL VERSES:
He heals the brokenhearted
and bandages their wounds. (Ps. 147:3)
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;
he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. (Ps. 34:18)
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” (Revelation 21:4)
27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27)
26 My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak,
but God remains the strength of my heart;
he is mine forever. (Psalm 73:26)
4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried;
it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God,
a punishment for his own sins! (Isaiah 53:4)
18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. (Romans 8:18)
Weekly Assignment Feature:
Reflect upon a time your grieving heart found strength in the Lord.

Ep. 150: Dealing with Life’s Disappointments
Sunday Jan 23, 2022
Sunday Jan 23, 2022
SHOW NOTES
In Podcast Episode 150, “Dealing with Life’s Disappointments,” Kim discusses the challenges we all face when dealing with the disappointments we face. On this side of heaven, we will not have answers to the majority of the “why” questions. This is one of the many reasons hanging on to God’s promises and pointing others to the land where disappointment does not reside are two of the most appropriate ways to live victoriously.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 29:1-11 with 3-7 as the focal verses.
1 About that time the Philistines mustered their armies for another war with Israel. King Achish told David, “You and your men will be expected to join me in battle.”
2 “Very well!” David agreed. “Now you will see for yourself what we can do.”
Then Achish told David, “I will make you my personal bodyguard for life.” (1 Samuel 28:1-2)
6 So Achish finally summoned David and said to him, “I swear by the Lord that you have been a trustworthy ally. I think you should go with me into battle, for I’ve never found a single flaw in you from the day you arrived until today. But the other Philistine rulers won’t hear of it. (1 Samuel 29:6)
ADDITIONAL VERSES:
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28)
Weekly Assignment Feature:
What is one disappointment which eventually turned into a God appointment?
