Sunday May 29, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 168, “Where Did the Lord Burst through for You?” Kim discusses the places in our lives where we have seen the Lord burst through on our behalves. She challenges listeners to prayerfully reflect on those places and to consider naming them and placing reminders around for daily encouragement.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 2 Samuel 5:17-25 with 20 as the focal verse.
20 So David went to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “The Lord did it!” David exclaimed. “He burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So he named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”).
ADDITIONAL VERSES, etc.:
30 Jacob named the place Peniel (which means “face of God”), for he said, “I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been spared.” (Genesis 32:30)
12 Samuel then took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer (which means “the stone of help”), for he said, “Up to this point the Lord has helped us!” (1 Samuel 7:12)
1 Chronicles 14:8-17

Ep. 167: In Times of Blessing, Keep Your Eyes on the Lord
Sunday May 22, 2022
Sunday May 22, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 167, “In Times of Blessing, Keep Your Eyes on the Lord,” Kim discusses the dangers of success. You can lose focus on the Lord in any season of life, but be especially alert during successful days. Success can tempt you to focus on yourself and your accomplishments and take your eyes away from Christ. When that happens, other sinful choices will follow.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 2 Samuel 5:11-16 with 12-13 as the focal verses.
11 Then King Hiram of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar timber and carpenters and stonemasons, and they built David a palace. 12 And David realized that the Lord had confirmed him as king over Israel and had blessed his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.
13 After moving from Hebron to Jerusalem, David married more concubines and wives, and they had more sons and daughters. 14 These are the names of David’s sons who were born in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, 16 Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet.
ADDITIONAL VERSES, etc.:
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
Weekly Assignment Feature:
Ask the Lord to show you any area of your focus that is not on Him and His purposes.

Ep. 166: In What Ways Has the Lord Made You More Powerful?
Sunday May 15, 2022
Sunday May 15, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 166, “In What Ways Has the Lord Made You More Powerful?” Kim discusses the power available to each follower of Jesus Christ. Sadly, most believers live as if they are powerless when they really have access to the One who holds all power.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 2 Samuel 5:9-10 with 10 as the focal verse.
9 So David made the fortress his home, and he called it the City of David. He extended the city, starting at the supporting terraces and working inward. 10 And David became more and more powerful, because the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies was with him.
ADDITIONAL VERSES, etc.:
16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. (Ephesians 3:16-20)

Ep. 165: Are You More Than Cautiously Discerning?
Sunday May 08, 2022
Sunday May 08, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 165, “Are You More Cocky Than Cautiously Discerning?” Kim discusses the dangers of feeling invincible to certain sins penetrating your life. In today’s story, the Jebusites thought their defenses were impenetrable and they taunted King David and his men. However, the joke was truly on them when they were caught off guard by an attack through the water tunnel. In what ways might Satan be conducting a sneak attack in your life and you do not realize it?
The primary scripture text for this episode is 2 Samuel 5:6-8 with 6 as the focal verse.
6 David then led his men to Jerusalem to fight against the Jebusites, the original inhabitants of the land who were living there. The Jebusites taunted David, saying, “You’ll never get in here! Even the blind and lame could keep you out!” For the Jebusites thought they were safe. 7 But David captured the fortress of Zion, which is now called the City of David. 8 On the day of the attack, David said to his troops, “I hate those ‘lame’ and ‘blind’ Jebusites. Whoever attacks them should strike by going into the city through the water tunnel.” That is the origin of the saying, “The blind and the lame may not enter the house.”
ADDITIONAL VERSES, etc.:
12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. (1 Corinthians 10:12-13)

Ep. 163: The Dangers of Inconsistent Boundaries
Sunday Apr 24, 2022
Sunday Apr 24, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 163, “The Dangers of Inconsistent Boundaries,” Kim discusses the challenges for all who need to interact with someone with inconsistent boundaries. This also presents challenges for the one with inconsistent boundaries, compromising any chances of intimate relationships.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 2 Samuel 4:1-12 with 9-12 as the focal verses.
9 But David said to Recab and Baanah, “The Lord, who saves me from all my enemies, is my witness. 10 Someone once told me, ‘Saul is dead,’ thinking he was bringing me good news. But I seized him and killed him at Ziklag. That’s the reward I gave him for his news! 11 How much more should I reward evil men who have killed an innocent man in his own house and on his own bed? Shouldn’t I hold you responsible for his blood and rid the earth of you?”
12 So David ordered his young men to kill them, and they did. They cut off their hands and feet and hung their bodies beside the pool in Hebron. Then they took Ishbosheth’s head and buried it in Abner’s tomb in Hebron.
ADDITIONAL VERSES, etc.:
13 Then David said to the young man who had brought the news, “Where are you from?”
And he replied, “I am a foreigner, an Amalekite, who lives in your land.”
14 “Why were you not afraid to kill the Lord’s anointed one?” David asked.
15 Then David said to one of his men, “Kill him!” So the man thrust his sword into the Amalekite and killed him. 16 “You have condemned yourself,” David said, “for you yourself confessed that you killed the Lord’s anointed one.” (2 Samuel 1:13-16)
39 And even though I am the anointed king, these two sons of Zeruiah—Joab and Abishai—are too strong for me to control. So may the Lord repay these evil men for their evil deeds.” (2 Samuel 3:39)

5 “And there is something else. You know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me when he murdered my two army commanders, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. He pretended that it was an act of war, but it was done in a time of peace, staining his belt and sandals with innocent blood. 6 Do with him what you think best, but don’t let him grow old and go to his grave in peace. Ep. 161: Who Does the Pursuit of Revenge Harm?
Sunday Apr 10, 2022
Sunday Apr 10, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 161, “Who Does the Pursuit of Revenge Harm?” Kim discusses the pain inflicted when someone chooses to pursue revenge. When has your life been impacted by the pursuit of revenge, either by yourself or by another? How did this affect you? In what ways does the hatred inside harm the holder and others?
The primary scripture texts for this episode are 2 Samuel 3:22-30 with 30 as the focal verse.
30 So Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner because Abner had killed their brother Asahel at the battle of Gibeon.
ADDITIONAL VERSES, etc.:
Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord. (Romans 12:19)
The problem with revenge is that it never evens the score. It ties both the injured and the injurer to an escalator of pain. Both are stuck on the escalator as long as parity is demanded, and the escalator never stops. (Lewis B. Smedes)
“Abbe Faria: Here is your final lesson – do not commit the crime for which you now serve the sentence. God said, “Vengeance is mine.”
Edmond Dantes: I don’t believe in God.
Abbe Faria: It doesn’t matter. He believes in you.” (from the Count of Monte Cristo movie 2002)
7 People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, 8 but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. 10 And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! 11 Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? 12 Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring. (James 3:7-12)

Ep. 160: When Earthly Power Blinds You
Sunday Apr 03, 2022
Sunday Apr 03, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 160, “When Earthly Power Blinds You,” Kim discusses the concept of “power blindness.” In 2 Samuel 3, David and Abner repeatedly show how earthly power can blind someone to the needs of others, how little control they truly have, and much, much more.
The primary scripture texts for this episode are 2 Samuel 3:1-21 with 12-16 as the focal verses.
12 Then Abner sent messengers to David, saying, “Doesn’t the entire land belong to you? Make a solemn pact with me, and I will help turn over all of Israel to you.”
13 “All right,” David replied, “but I will not negotiate with you unless you bring back my wife Michal, Saul’s daughter, when you come.”
14 David then sent this message to Ishbosheth, Saul’s son: “Give me back my wife Michal, for I bought her with the lives of 100 Philistines.”
15 So Ishbosheth took Michal away from her husband, Palti son of Laish. 16 Palti followed along behind her as far as Bahurim, weeping as he went. Then Abner told him, “Go back home!” So Palti returned.
ADDITIONAL VERSES:
46 Then his disciples began arguing about which of them was the greatest. 47 But Jesus knew their thoughts, so he brought a little child to his side. 48 Then he said to them, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me also welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest.” (Luke 9:46-48)
25 But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. (Matthew 20:25-27)
Isaiah 14:12-14 and Ezekiel 28:13-17

Ep. 159: Choose Not to Run Headlong into Danger
Sunday Mar 27, 2022
Sunday Mar 27, 2022
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 159, “Choose Not to Run Headlong into Danger,” Kim discusses the importance of heeding the danger signs. Young Asahel ran headlong into danger, ignoring the obvious signs. In contrast, Joseph ran away from danger, without needing flashing neon signs to warn him. Which one are you most like in this season of life?
The primary scripture texts for this episode are 2 Samuel 2:12-32 with 22-23 as the focal verses.
22 Again Abner shouted to him, “Get away from here! I don’t want to kill you. How could I ever face your brother Joab again?”
23 But Asahel refused to turn back, so Abner thrust the butt end of his spear through Asahel’s stomach, and the spear came out through his back. He stumbled to the ground and died there. And everyone who came by that spot stopped and stood still when they saw Asahel lying there.

May God honor this personalized scripture prayer in the life of each listener:
Dear Lord,
I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources You will empower each listener with inner strength through Your Spirit. May You make Your home in her(/his) heart as she trusts in You. May her roots grow down into Your love and keep her strong. And may she have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is. May she experience Your love, though it is too great to understand fully. Then may she be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from You. Now all glory to You, who is able, through Your mighty power at work within her, to accomplish infinitely more than she might ask or think. (Ephesians 3:16-20 Personalized Prayer)
