In Podcast Episode 198, “Is Reconciliation Always the Right Choice?” Kim discusses the importance of understanding the difference between forgiveness and reconciliation. King David chose to reconcile with his estranged son Absalom, but it is not healthy for all relationships to be reconciled. Still, others are not reconcilable because at least one party is not willing.

Instead of surrounding Tamar in love and protection, Absalom told her to “be quiet” and not take the offense to heart. David became “very angry” but didn’t appear to do anything healthy or helpful in his anger. Which character in the story do you most relate? How does the Lord want you to respond?

In Podcast Episode 190, “Secure and Humble Enough to Point to Another,” Kim discusses the human tendency to hog the glory, either due to insecurity or unhealthy pride. In today’s text, we see Joab stepping aside to allow David to take the glory for the Ammonite victory. Then, we will look at a similar text showing John the Baptist pointing all glory to Jesus.
 
The primary scripture text for this episode is 2 Samuel 12:26-31 with 28 as the focal verse:
 
28 Now bring the rest of the army and capture the city. Otherwise, I will capture it and get credit for the victory.”
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE:
 
Examine your life. Are you more likely to show your insecurity and try to hog the glory or are you secure enough to point the glory toward another?

In the spring of the year, when kings normally go out to war, David sent Joab and the Israelite army to fight the Ammonites. They destroyed the Ammonite army and laid siege to the city of Rabbah. However, David stayed behind in Jerusalem. (2 Samuel 11:1)

In Podcast Episode 189, “Life on the Other Side of a Broken and Repentant Heart,” Kim discusses the gift of the Lord of an abundant life after a true experience of brokenness and surrender. So many of us stop short of a broken and repentant heart and hope to just nod at God, and He will remove the consequences of our actions. Yet, in order to experience an abundant life, you must humbly agree with the Lord regarding your sin and commit to follow Him wholeheartedly. King David experienced the Lord’s love and favor when he fell upon the mercy of the Lord.
 
The primary scripture text for this episode is 2 Samuel 12:24-25:
 
24 Then David comforted Bathsheba, his wife, and slept with her. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son, and David named him Solomon. The Lord loved the child 25 and sent word through Nathan the prophet that they should name him Jedidiah (which means “beloved of the Lord”), as the Lord had commanded.
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE:
 
Prayerfully surrender any sinful choice, hurt, or hangup which you should have already left at the cross.
