Sunday Feb 26, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 207, “Jumping to Conclusions Leads to Nothing Good,” Kim discusses the danger of making major decisions on limited information. In today’s story, we see King David make a wrong decision because he only listens to one side of the story.
Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Samuel 16:1-4 with 3-4 as the focal verses.
3 “And where is Mephibosheth, Saul’s grandson?” the king asked him.
“He stayed in Jerusalem,” Ziba replied. “He said, ‘Today I will get back the kingdom of my grandfather Saul.’”
4 “In that case,” the king told Ziba, “I give you everything Mephibosheth owns.”
“I bow before you,” Ziba replied. “May I always be pleasing to you, my lord the king.”

Ep. 206: Men After God’s Own Heart Do Cry
Sunday Feb 19, 2023
Sunday Feb 19, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 206, “Men After God’s Own Heart Do Cry,” Kim discusses the contrast between the American misconception that real men don’t cry to the Biblical examples of the weeping of Godly men. Although we focus primarily on King David and Christ, there are many examples of tears from Godly men.
Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Samuel 15:30. The additional focal verse is 1 Samuel 13:14.
30 David walked up the road to the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went. His head was covered and his feet were bare as a sign of mourning. And the people who were with him covered their heads and wept as they climbed the hill.
14 But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart. The Lord has already appointed him to be the leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.” (1 Samuel 13:14)
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE:
Ask the Lord to show you His perspective of Godly men and tears.

Additional Resources and Scriptures:
8 You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. (Ps. 56:8 from A psalm of David, regarding the time Philistines seized him in Gath.)
6 I am worn out from sobbing. All night I flood my bed with weeping, drenching it with my tears. 7 My vision is blurred by grief; my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies. (Psalm 6:6-7 from A psalm of David).
9 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am in distress. Tears blur my eyes. My body and soul are withering away. 10 I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within. (Psalm 31:9-10 from A psalm of David)
32 They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king and all the people wept at his graveside. (2 Samuel 3:32)
41 As soon as the boy was gone, David came out from where he had been hiding near the stone pile. Then David bowed three times to Jonathan with his face to the ground. Both of them were in tears as they embraced each other and said good-bye, especially David. (1 Samuel 20:41)
22 David replied, “I fasted and wept while the child was alive, for I said, ‘Perhaps the Lord will be gracious to me and let the child live.’ (2 Samuel 12:22)
36 They soon arrived, weeping and sobbing, and the king and all his servants wept bitterly with them. 37 And David mourned many days for his son Amnon. (2 Samuel 13:36-37a)
33 The king was overcome with emotion. He went up to the room over the gateway and burst into tears. And as he went, he cried, “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you! O Absalom, my son, my son.” (2 Samuel 18:33)
33 When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him, and he was deeply troubled. 34 “Where have you put him?” he asked them. They told him, “Lord, come and see.” 35 Then Jesus wept. (John 11:33-35)
41 But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. 42 “How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes. 43 Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side. 44 They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not recognize it when God visited you.” (Luke 19:41-44)
7 While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. (Hebrews 5:7)

Ep. 203: Do You Have a Judas in Your Circle?
Sunday Jan 29, 2023
Sunday Jan 29, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 203, “Do You Have a Judas in Your Circle?” Kim discusses one of the traitors in King David’s inner circle, comparing him to the most infamous traitor of all time, Judas Iscariot. Each of us needs to use a discerning spirit, led by the Holy Spirit, to avoid trusting those with traitors tendencies.
Our focal verses for this week are varied:
12 While Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel, one of David’s counselors who lived in Giloh. Soon many others also joined Absalom, and the conspiracy gained momentum. (2 Samuel 15:12)
Absalom followed Ahithophel’s advice, just as David had done. For every word Ahithophel spoke seemed as wise as though it had come directly from the mouth of God. (2 Samuel 16:23)
When Ahithophel realized that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey, went to his hometown, set his affairs in order, and hanged himself. He died there and was buried in the family tomb. (2 Samuel 17:23)
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE:

13 Afterward Jesus went up on a mountain and called out the ones he wanted to go with him. And they came to him. 14 Then he appointed twelve of them and called them his apostles. They were to accompany him, and he would send them out to preach, 15 giving them authority to cast out demons. 16 These are the twelve he chose:…19 Judas Iscariot (who later betrayed him). (Mark 3:16a-19)
4 But Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray him, said, 5 “That perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.” 6 Not that he cared for the poor—he was a thief, and since he was in charge of the disciples’ money, he often stole some for himself. (John 12:4-6)

Ep. 202: How Do You SEE People?
Sunday Jan 22, 2023
Sunday Jan 22, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 202, “How Do You SEE People?” Kim discusses the temptation every one of us experiences regarding how we SEE people. Absalom appears to have only seen people as a means to an end, which is a temptation for many. Another struggle is to not SEE people at all, but to be so focused on me, me, me, me that we miss all the unique people around us for whom Christ died.
The primary scripture text is 2 Samuel 15:1-12 with 2-6 as the focal verses:
2 He got up early every morning and went out to the gate of the city. When people brought a case to the king for judgment, Absalom would ask where in Israel they were from, and they would tell him their tribe. 3 Then Absalom would say, “You’ve really got a strong case here! It’s too bad the king doesn’t have anyone to hear it. 4 I wish I were the judge. Then everyone could bring their cases to me for judgment, and I would give them justice!”
5 When people tried to bow before him, Absalom wouldn’t let them. Instead, he took them by the hand and kissed them. 6 Absalom did this with everyone who came to the king for judgment, and so he stole the hearts of all the people of Israel.

Ep. 201: Where Did the ”Face Down a Giant Warrior” Faith Go?
Sunday Jan 15, 2023
Sunday Jan 15, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 201, “Where Did the ‘Face Down a Giant Warrior’ Faith Go?” Kim discusses the differences between the faith David displayed when he faced Goliath (1 Samuel 17) and the lack of faith he displayed as he fled from Jerusalem and Absalom (2 Samuel 15:13-15). What did and did not happen in the life of David to bring him to this sad day? How about you? Is your faith growing or have your faith muscles atrophied? What will you do today to prevent the “What happened?” question from being an issue?
The primary scripture text is 2 Samuel 15:13-15:
13 A messenger soon arrived in Jerusalem to tell David, “All Israel has joined Absalom in a conspiracy against you!”
14 “Then we must flee at once, or it will be too late!” David urged his men. “Hurry! If we get out of the city before Absalom arrives, both we and the city of Jerusalem will be spared from disaster.”
15 “We are with you,” his advisers replied. “Do what you think is best.”

Ep. 199: Beware of the Backstabbers!
Sunday Jan 01, 2023
Sunday Jan 01, 2023
SHOW NOTES:
In Podcast Episode 199, “Beware of the Backstabbers!” Kim discusses the importance of being wise regarding all relationships, no matter whether personal or otherwise. Also, beware of the temptation to stab another’s back.
The primary scripture text for this episode is 2 Samuel 15:1-12 with verses 6, 10-12 as the focal verses:
6 Absalom did this with everyone who came to the king for judgment, and so he stole the hearts of all the people of Israel.
10 But while he was there, he sent secret messengers to all the tribes of Israel to stir up a rebellion against the king. “As soon as you hear the ram’s horn,” his message read, “you are to say, ‘Absalom has been crowned king in Hebron.’” 11 He took 200 men from Jerusalem with him as guests, but they knew nothing of his intentions. 12 While Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel, one of David’s counselors who lived in Giloh. Soon many others also joined Absalom, and the conspiracy gained momentum.
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE:
Take some time to prayerfully assess each relationship in all of your circles.

May God honor this personalized scripture prayer in the life of each listener:
Dear Lord,
I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources You will empower each listener with inner strength through Your Spirit. May You make Your home in her(/his) heart as she trusts in You. May her roots grow down into Your love and keep her strong. And may she have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is. May she experience Your love, though it is too great to understand fully. Then may she be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from You. Now all glory to You, who is able, through Your mighty power at work within her, to accomplish infinitely more than she might ask or think. (Ephesians 3:16-20 Personalized Prayer)
